From Hiding to Creating: Choosing Courage Over Comparison
It’s not about going viral, it’s about showing up for yourself.
Now that you’ve curated your inputs (from my last post), it’s time to step into reality.
This is where things can get tricky.
Doubt seeps in.
Even with positive inspiration filling your feed, you’ll start to see everyone else’s wins.
You begin comparing your Day 1 to their Day 1,000. Social media is just the highlight reel.
Take a moment to wallow.
It’s okay.
Take a moment to wish you had started sooner.
We all have those moments. I’m right there with you. Please remember we have NO IDEA what people had gone through to get there, and the battles their quietly facing. That’s the point. This journey is all about YOU.
Here’s my confession:
I started a podcast in 2020. I made it through a few months before deciding to pause.
Why? Because my identity shifted. My goals in life shifted. The rose colored glasses came off.
And I didn’t know how to speak honestly about those changes with the "brand" I was building.
The brand was Black in Prague—but if I wasn’t planning to live in Prague anymore, how could I continue being Black in Prague?
Also, choosing a direction was tough. I wanted to meet others and connect with their experiences, but I realized many people didn’t feel safe.
They didn’t want their stories online. They didn’t want their faces on social media.
They just wanted to quietly exist and struggle.
Now, I get that.
That was me.
Some days, it is me.
But I also realized: who you surround yourself with matters.
I don’t aspire to go viral or be Instagram famous.
I’m feeding a creative urge—to share, to build something meaningful, in my own way. Creating a Substack rather than a TikTok channel right now feels ‘homey’ it feels nurturing. I may still venture into Youtube but let’s see how things progress.
Hiding
Looking back, in 2020, at that last job—I was hiding.
I had just bought a home, (a mortgage).
I wasn’t loving the work I was doing and I knew I needed a change but didn’t no how to start. So I stayed still. The world was in chaos, and I just wanted to keep my head down and survive.
But this is where I’m breaking the pattern.
Instead of staying quiet and isolated, I’m choosing to show up.
Again and again, I’m showing up here to encourage you to speak up, create, and share.
Realize this:
This is hard. But we’re done healing. We’re taking action. This is a make or break year in the astro realms.
This job market is tough, but not tougher than you. You’ve made it through tough times before.
The only plan right now? Joy. Build a new life that works for you.
One small brave step at a time.
